Seacrete constructed Broads cruiser
In the 1950-60s before glass fibre made its presence in the world of small boats the only way to obtain a med size cruiser was from one of the commercial yacht builders, with the high cost involved in timber or steel construction.
At this time a design method was developed using a waterproof cement, produced by Seacrete, the system was, you purchased a standard plan, scaled it up or down to suit, A light weight timber frame was constructed, usually inverted, This was them clad in galvanised steel wire mesh, The hull was them “plastered” in Seacrete, as you would plaster a wall, then skimmed with a fine surface finish.
The hulls were noted for there soft curves, Cement not liking sharp corners, heavy construction and immense strength, they claim you could ram a dock, and you would win, ease of repair was another of its attributes.
This model represents one of these type of craft, only constructed over a few years, with a fine pedigree, Built in the 1960s this boat has been cherished by her previous owners, and we hope she still is.
We often met her on holidays on the Norfolk Broads years ago, and we hope she is still around. The name is genuine, and we love it, it always brings the spelling “police” out who can not wait to tell you its spelt “wrong”.
We claim no accuracy of the model as we have no plans or pictures of her in original form.
Externally she is both stunning and imposing, Internally she is no different.
It is difficult to find the right words to describe this lady, maiden ? she has 4 separate cabins, a separate heads and shower, a galley that is on the port side of the boat and a large saloon with seating for 8 in comfort. |
