Description:

This plated and detailed hull of one of the most famous wartime tankers, is large and impressive hull to add to our range.
A brief history of the famous event the made her name. The Imperial Transport, a tanker of 12,500 tons was struck by torpedo in the atlantic in 1940. Within 5 minutes she had broken in half and the crew took to the boats. They later found that the aft part was still afloat, boarded her and set to work to try to save what was left of there ship. The trim was corrected by flooding and pumping tanks.
The crew started the engines and kept her stern to the sea for 2 days. When the seas abated the engines were put ahead, slowly, and she made 3.5 knots for a further 48 hours.
A new fore part of the ship was constructed, complete with all deckhouses, masts etc, The wrecked section was cleaned up in dock and the new section floated into place, jacked together, and rivetted as one part. The ship was then refloated out and was returned to service.
